the magic of my first Polaroid camera
Wednesday, January 6, 2010
Well, I just got my new (new to me) Polaroid camera! I'm very excited about it. Really.
I think, since I remember seeing one as a kid, I always wanted to play with one.
The way it spits the photos out, and you wait and you stare at it for 3 minutes watching it come to life from red shadows until is all clear and beautiful. Even though I used to develop my own photos in dark rooms, this is still way more fascinating.
Too bad I waited until they don't make it anymore...

The beginning of a beautiful friendship
Friday, October 9, 2009
The beginning of a beautiful friendship between photography and encaustic on multiple paneled surface - I just finished this morning the triptych I am submitting for the Northern Exposure show (an annual exhibit here in Escanaba, Mi at the W. Bonifas Arts Center - it's an awesome show btw, high quality works!) After a lot of pondering and experimenting it turned out great and marks the beginning of a new series for me.
The amazing qualities of the encaustic (beeswax) just give a new dimension to the image. The pieces measure each around 24"x 30" (they are all made out of 6"x6", 8"x8", 12"x12" and 4"x4" combined panels) and I am looking forward to work on a larger scale- life size.

my digital sketch of the artwork I'm working on. This will be one of my entries for Northern Exposure. The deadline is Friday...not sure if I'll make it

Journey series as mini prints
Sunday, October 4, 2009

The original drawings for the Journey series are quite large, around 4'x6'. I made this mini print collection to accommodate the lack of wall space for anyone who enjoys this series.

Birds and open sky
Saturday, October 3, 2009

These are still my favorites...encaustic is amazing.
I'm using Sidewiki right now to make this post.
I was looking for a while for a way to link my Etsy shop entries to the blog. We'll see how this works!
